Super Bowl Sunday

The die-hard Denver and Carolina fans have been wearing team jerseys and waving flags for weeks now. Even if your team didn’t make it to the big game you will still pick a side. It’s friend vs. friend, husband vs. wife, brother vs. sister. If you’re not fan of either of the teams playing, you’ll pick a team for all sorts of reasons. My mother will pick the team based on her favorite uniform. Dad will probably use a more sportsman-like methodology.  Or, in my case, I like one player or coach better than the others. Heck, you don’t even have to like football to enjoy the Super Bowl.

Parties have been planned. Chips and dips, hot dogs, deli subs and pots of chili prepped and ready to go. Football pool squares have been sold and participants eagerly await the scores at the end of each quarter to see if they’ve won part of the pot. (On a side note, I’ve been the person selling those squares… “Care for a square?  Have $2 to spare?  Please buy a square, or 2.” It’s a tough job. Buy a square.) The Super Bowl is one of those games where the supporting events are just as entertaining as the main event, if not more so. Let’s not forget the extravagant half time shows. And those commercials! The Super Bowl is only time you are shushed during a commercial and not the game.

So, enjoy your parties and best of luck to you in your pools! And may the best team win! I’ll be watching from my parents’ house, hoping for a competitive game, great commercials and eating chips, dips, and my traditional Sunday football meal – chili and cornbread. Go Peyton!
