Dog Days of Summer

Breezy and cooler days indicate fall is on its way, but summer hasn’t quite let go. We still have the occasional hot, humid day that reminds me of the dog days of summer – when the temperature is hot and the humidity is high. There’s a certain stillness while I stroll through the woods in the early evening. The water is calm on the lake. The air is thick, a breeze – nonexistent. I move a little slower, breathe a little deeper. Sweat forms on my skin with little physical exertion. The sound of cicadas buzzing in the trees gradually melts into crickets singing their evening song. Summer.
